Migrant Farm Walk

MACRA's Rural Youth Committee held a Migrant Farm Walk on Saturday the 4th of June on the farm of Jonathan Dwyer’s, Co. Laois. The walk saw Syrian refugees come together from all parts of Ireland and of all ages, the youngest 4 months to 78 years old.

Two tours were held, with the first group arriving at 10.30, with light refreshment provided, and the 2nd group arriving at 12.30 also receiving light refreshment. Our MACRA president and host farmer Jonathan Dwyer gave the tours of the impressive Laois dairy farm.

All attendees received a small goodie bag at the end of the tour and were treated to lunch in Racket Hall to conclude the day.

Special thanks to the following people for their work aiding the bringing together of the Syrian refugees which shows the brilliant work MACRA is doing in rural communities and for inclusivity.

  • Helen Hayes (Outgoing rural youth committee)
  • John Keane (Macra president)
  • Jonathan Dwyer (Host farmer)
  • Niamh Farrell (Chair, rural youth committee)
  • Elaine Holihan
  • Sarah Kelly
  • Rebecca Tierney
  • Patrick Jordan

We would also like to thank and any other person who helped in any way.
