Junior Farmers Association of Ontario: Macra sends one member to Canada on an exchange for up to three months from end of May to end of August. Applications by interested members must be submitted to Audrey McDonnell, Travel Administrator, (email@example.com and 01 4268901) by 28 February each year. Interested candidates will be invited to attend an interview in Macra National Office in March and one candidate will be selected on the basis of (a) ability to represent Macra, (b) perceived benefit to member and (c) suitability of candidate for exchange. The successful candidate must fund their own flight costs and will be hosted by members’ families of the Junior Farmers Association in Ontario. Further details available on request.
Scotland Exchange hosted by Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs: Macra sends two members to Scotland each year for their exchange program. Successful candidates will participate in the orientation day on arrival and will be assigned to a host family. Candidates will also attend the Scottish Highland Show. The trip takes place usually in June. IFYE to Switzerland
Macra na Feirme send one member to Switzerland. Below is some information and criteria about the programme. Arrival date 21 June with a stay of between 4 weeks and 3 months. One week later there was a weekend for all incomings with informations and lot of fun. Accommodation and food was paid for by IFYE Swiss. You will be expected to help/work with family and so they get food, place to sleep and fun with family. Travel between host families is paid for by IFYE swiss. You will have to pay for your own flight and insurance and some travels alone without the host family. Incoming IFYE should be between 18 and 30 years and would be good, if he/she is interested in farming.
Over the years, Macra has sent significant numbers of students abroad on work placements. The demand for this service diminished considerably in recent years.
However, due to the economic downturn, there is likely to be a growing demand for work placements from agricultural students / Macra members. Macra can assist members secure work placement opportunities in a variety of countries.
Club / County Exchanges
Macra provides a service to link clubs or counties with counterparts in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. Clubs and counties that would like to go on an informal exchange should express their interest to Macra National Office and every effort will be made to provide a link with a host club or county in the destination country. It should be noted that there tends to be an expectation that the Macra club or county would host a subsequent return visit.
Youth Exchange (as part of Youth in Action Programme. See www.leargas.ie/youth) Macra has participated in youth exchanges with sister organisations across Europe in recent years. If a county / region would like to participate in a youth exchange Macra can assist in identifying a partner. Please note that there is a lead time of 6 – 9 months for organizing exchanges under the Youth In Action Programme.
