Know Your Neighbour campaign gets off to a flying start

Many organisations are taking up the challenge of organising a neighbourly activity as part of the ‘Know Your Neighbour’ weekend, nationally sponsored by ESB Customer Supply. The Irish Greyhound Board is one of the first out of the traps! In recognition of the success of the Macra na Feirme event over the last number of years, The Irish Greyhound Board are now offering complimentary admission to groups who wish to host their community event over a night at the dogs!

With stadia located nationwide - all details on venues and race nights are available on www.igb.ie or groups can call to book their night (for all your neighbours both young and old) at 1890 269 969.

Miriam O’Callaghan from RTE launched Macra na Feirme’s Know Your Neighbour campaign, citing the slogan, ‘Don’t walk by, say Hi!’ as containing an important message for Irish people. A panel discussion, chaired by Miriam, concluded that we need to be more proactive with our neighbours if we are to have active, caring neighbourhoods.

‘Know Your Neighbour Weekend’, which runs for the fifth year on the weekend of July 24th to 25th 2010, is a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging people to interact more with their neighbours by asking them to organise or attend a ‘Know Your Neighbour’ event in their community. Typically neighbours have organised picnics, barbeques, parties, fun days and a variety of other social get togethers.

Individuals and groups are being encouraged to get involved in this fun initiative and can get an organiser’s pack from Macra na Feirme at 01 4268910 or through the website www.knowyourneighbour.ie.
