Athboy Macra Walk Away with the Macra na Feirme Public Speaking Title
After an extremely entertaining evening of speechmaking, the team from Athboy Macra from Co. Meath were named this year's Public Speaking champions while last year’s winners Clodagh Macra club from county Tipperary came second. The team from Athboy was made up of Darren Smyth, Aisling Kearney and Anthony Smyth who also received the best speaker award on the night.
This year's final of the Public Speaking competition took place last Saturday in Hannons Hotel in Roscommon and the team from Athboy have now won themselves places on the Macra Prize-winner’s Trip which will take place later this year.
Speaking at the final, Michael Gowing, Macra na Feirme, National President, congratulated the team from Athboy on their win and also commended all four teams who made it to the final of the competition, he highlighted the emphasis Macra places on all its speaking competitions, and encouraged all members to get involved in these competitions in the future.
