Athboy Macra Club Win FBD Capers Competition
The national final of Macra na Feirme's variety entertainment contest, the FBD Capers Competition, took place in the Mountmellick Arts Centre, county Laois this past weekend, where Athboy Macra club from Meath beat off stiff competition from five other groups to emerge victorious on the night.
Bree Macra club from Wexford came second on the night with their show ‘Fame’ while Mountmellick Macra from Laois took third with their production ‘It’s Showtime’. In the past decade Athboy Macra have only missed the top honours in this competition in 2003 and 2009.
'Macra Capers' is a competition designed for clubs wishing to gain experience in producing and performing a light entertainment variety show, with performances ranging from singing and dancing to comedy and drama.
Athboy show, entitled “that Kind of Feeling" was a mixture of dancing, live music and comedy. Joe Healy from Athboy Macra won Best Male performance on the night, while Emmer Dunne from Mountmellick Macra group won the best female performance, the group from Clonakilty got Best Act and Eamonn Cassells from Athboy Macra took the Best Producer gong.
Speaking at the event, Michael Gowing, national president of Macra na Feirme, commended all six groups on the talent and hard work which had brought them to the national final. Once again Mr. Gowing extended his thanks to sponsors FBD for all their help in making the competition a great success.
