RDP - Delivering for Young Agri-Entrepreneurs 2014-2020
Macra hosted a European Young Farmers conference in association with CEJA in the Castleknock Hotel, Dublin on Monday, 11th March. The conference delivered a unified message from young farmers all over Europe to the institutions of the European Union regarding CAP reform. With only 6% of European farmers under 35 years of age, effective measures are needed to encourage new entrants to European agriculture.
The conference was addressed by:
- European Commissioner for Agriculture, Dacian Ciolos
- Chairman of the Council of Agriculture Ministers, Simon Coveney
- MEP Mairead McGuinness, Member of COMAGRI
- Alan Renwick, Professor in Agriculture & Food Economics, UCD
Other speakers set out the expectations of Europe’s new generation of farmers.

Participants contributed to the debate on the shape of the next Rural Development Programme. The conference was followed by a reception in Áras an Uachtaráin with President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins and an international banquet in Trinity College Dining Hall, Dublin.
