Government Should Listen to Students Concerns
15 September 2009
Macra na Feirme national president Michael Gowing called on the Government to listen to the concerns of students who are making their voices heard over the possible reintroduction of Third Level fees.
He said Government must not use the recession as an excuse to lessen the importance of education, they must support and not hinder the development of the sector, as Ireland’s highly educated young people will be a key factor in getting Ireland out of recession and will drive the Governments ‘Smart Economy’ concept.
Mr Gowing said it is very important that the enthusiasm for education among young people is not scuppered and dampened down by Government policy of endeavoring to reintroduce Third Level fees.
