Wales YFC Welcomed 5 Nations to Cardiff
16 March 2010
Wales YFC recently hosted a meeting of all 5 Rural Youth Organisations in the UK and Ireland at Cardiff. Representatives from Macra na Feirme, National Federation of YFC (England and Wales), Scottish Association of YFC, YFC of Ulster and Wales YFC attended the meeting.
Wales YFC last hosted the meeting in 2006 and since then the group has been meeting in various locations in the UK and Ireland. The purpose of the group is to give an opportunity for leading figures within each organisation to come together once or twice a year to discuss collaborative working and to share good practices and ideas.
A session was also spent looking at the group, the way it works and how it can be could be developed in the future to ensure the maximum benefits for all delegates attending.
Tim John, Wales YFC chairman noted, “It was pleasing to see representatives from all 5 of the rural youth organisations in the UK and Ireland attend the meeting. Delegates arrived on the Sunday evening giving us all an opportunity to get to know each other in an informal atmosphere. All of the organisations work in different ways and the 5 nations meetings gives us the chance to learn more about each other. All of the staff members responsible for the international programme within each organisation were invited to attend the meeting and this gave them the opportunity to discuss the programme within their countries and how it works. We hope that meeting in this way will provide a platform for joint projects in the future”.
John Kenny, North-West Vice President and Edmond Connolly CEO represented Macra at the meeting. The next meeting will be hosted by the Scottish organisation in Edinburgh.
