Agri-Environmental Science Degree Listed as Qualifying for Stamp Duty Relief in Finance Bill

Macra na Feirme, National President, Michael Gowing welcomed the decision to include the B. Agr. Sc. in Agri-Environmental Science to the list of training courses to qualify for Stamp Duty Relief in the Finance Bill. Stamp Duty relief applies where land is transferred to a young trained farmer under 35 by way of gift or sale.
Macra na Feirme had raised the issues in the past as it effected a number of Macra’s UCD members, who met with the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Brendan Smith as far back as Macra’s 2008 National Conference in Galway.
Finally, Mr. Gowing said it is important that new and existing courses, that are not currently on the list of qualifying training courses for young farmer Stamp Duty relief be reviewed for inclusion, for example the B. Agr. Sc. in Engineering Technology and the Dairy Business Degree program in UCD.
