Galway men win top prize at FBD Farmskills Final

03 September 2007
The national final of the FBD Farmskills competition has been won by Moylough club from Galway. The event took place last Saturday at Gurteen Agricultural College in Tipperary.

Six teams in total completed an academic test followed by a variety of farm tasks including stock-proof fencing, gate hanging and tractor skills. However, it was the Moylough team of Ivan Curran, Kevin Heverin and Trevor Flynn who stole the show and impressed judges in each of the categories of the competition.

The aims of this competition are to help young farmers develop various farm skills and techniques, to demonstrate to the public the skills required in modern farming, and to create greater awareness of farm safety. Macra president Catherine Buckley congratulated the winning team on their achievement and thanked FBD for their generous sponsorship of the event.

The Moylough men have now won themselves a place on the Macra na Feirme prizewinners' trip to Riga later this year.
