Macra national president Catherine Buckley has expressed her regret on the passing of Joe Rea, a former president of Macra na Feirme (1967 to 1969).

Paying tribute to Mr Rea, Ms Buckley said that his death ‘marked the passing of an era' and she extended her sympathy to his wife and family.

Ms Buckley said that Joe had always shown the courage of his convictions and had fine leadership skills. She pointed out that his initial involvement in farmer representation came through Macra na Feirme, where his unerring commitment to improving the lot of young farmers resulted in the growth and strengthening of the organisation.

"Joe has always remained a firm friend of Macra na Feirme, and more specifically to young farmers. He will be sadly missed in agricultural circles," she said.
