Annual Conference taking place in Laois

Over two thousand Macra members are expected to attend Macra's annual conference, sponsored by Glanbia and Kildare Forage Systems, which is taking place in the Montague Hotel, Emo, Co. Laois from October 27 to 30.

The young farmer conference, being held on Saturday 28th, will feature presentations from guest speakers including PJ Nolan, well-known dairy farmer; John Geraghty, min-till specialist; John Bax from Kildare Forage systems speaking on alternative forages; Anthony Browne from Biogreen speaking on oil seed rape and a representative from Glanbia.

Farm walks will take place on Gowing's dairy farm in Portlaoise and Jimmy Smith's tillage farm in Mountmellick. A special seminar on road safety will also be held during the afternoon.

Other events planned for the weekend include the national finals of the Bord Bia Beef and Sheep Stockjudging competitions, the 'Know Your Agriculture Quiz' sponsored by the Irish Farmers Journal and the AIB Macra na Feirme Club of the Year competition.
