Sligo Man Wins Macra Welding Competition

Sligo man, James Casey, from South Sligo Macra has won this year's final of the Macra na Feirme All-Ireland Welding competition, sponsored by Griffin Welding and Engineering Supply Centre (Midleton, Co. Cork).

John Casey, Midleton Macra, Imokilly, Co. Cork was awarded 2nd place. In 3rd place was Donal O’Callaghan from Glanmire Macra, Seandun, Co. Cork.

James Healy, Macra Munster Vice President, said, “Congratulations to all the winners in what was a challenging and worthwhile competition. Every year, the finalists are of a very high standard and this year was no different. I’d like to thank Griffin Welding and Engineering Supply Centre for their generous sponsorship of the competition and the staff of the Solas Centre in Bishopstown for their assistance in running the event.”

The event took place in the Solas Centre in Bishopstown last Friday, with 18 competitors from Macra clubs all over the country battling it out for the prize of a welder, generously donated by the competition's sponsors, as well as a place on the Macra prizewinners' trip abroad next year.

The competition involved a written theory test followed by practical welding tasks.
