Irish Consumers Urged to Support Young Irish Farmers this Christmas

Macra National President, Alan Jagoe, has urged Irish consumers to shop locally this Christmas and support young, Irish farmers.

Mr. Jagoe said, “We are appealing to Christmas shoppers to source their food locally and support the young farmers in their areas who are producing high quality vegetables, meat and dairy. If you support your local producer, you are supporting local jobs and also making sure you are buying the best quality, fresh produce available. Every euro spent on Irish farmed food stays in the local economy. When shopping, ask for the Irish option.”

In a time when the job market is under increasing pressure, it’s important that consumers support local producers. Young, trained farmers are producing high quality goods and need the support of consumers. Agriculture is one industry which is helping to lift the economy out of recession and investment and support is needed for the young farmers entering the industry.
