Macra na Feirme Public Speaking Competitions Winners
After an extremely entertaining evening of public speaking, the team from Treble R Macra, Dublin were named this year's Public Speaking champions while Michael Somers from Kilkenny City Macra won the Impromptu Public Speaking final. The Treble R team included Stephen Donlon, Ann Marie Stephens and, winner of the Best Speaker Award, Ian Lavery.

This year's final of the Public Speaking competitions took place last Saturday, the 10th in Trim GAA Club, Co. Meath. Michael and the team from Treble R have now won themselves places on the Macra Prize-winner’s Trip which will take place next year. Mr. Basil Bayne from Harper Adams University College attended and presented the new trophy for the Impromptu Public Speaking competition, which has been kindly donated by the college.
The Bree Macra team, from Wexford, came 2nd place in the Public Speaking competition while John Michael Fitzgerald, Kilmoyley Macra in Kerry took 2nd place in the Impromptu Public Speaking competition.
Speaking at the final, Alan Jagoe, Macra na Feirme National President, said, “Congratulations to the Treble R team and Michael Somers on their wins. I commend all competitors who made it to the finals of the competitions. Macra’s speaking competitions are held in high regard and I encourage all members to get involved in these competitions in the future.”
