Eanna Leonard, a member of the East Laois Macra club in County Laois has won this year's final of the Macra na Feirme National Welding competition, sponsored by Griffin Welding & Engineering Supply Centre (Midleton, Co. Cork).
James Casey from South Sligo Macra and Tadhg Firman from Cushinstown Macra, Co. Wexford were awarded the runner-up prizes.
Alan Jagoe, Macra National President, said, “The finalists in this years competition were of a very high standard. I’d like to thank Griffin Welding & Engineering Supply Centre for their generous sponsorship of the competition and the staff of the FAS Centre in Bishopstown for their assistance in running the event.”
The event took place in the FAS Centre in Bishopstown last week, with 21 competitors from Macra clubs all over the country battling it out for the prize of a welder, generously donated by the competition's sponsors, as well as a place on the Macra prizewinners' trip abroad next year.
The competition involved a written theory test followed by practical welding tasks.
