Rural Youth Organisation welcomes €35 million for Mental Health Services

The national rural youth organisation, Macra na Feirme, has welcomed the allocation of €35 million for community mental health services which will provide front line services to people in the community. The announcement was made today by Brendan Howlin as part of Budget 2012.

Macra National President, Alan Jagoe, said, “Alarmingly high rates of suicide particularly among young men and those living in isolated, rural communities has forced the issue in Ireland and I welcome the allocation being made to mental health services which will serve those most at risk. Conscious of the issue which is affecting our young members, we have established a relationship with Console, the suicide bereavement charity to raise awareness among rural young people.”
