Macra President reacts to Department of Agriculture Cuts and New Initiatives

Macra na Feirme National President, Alan Jagoe, expressed disappointment in the cuts to REPS and disadvantaged areas scheme. However, he hoped the Minister will preserve the more strategic reliefs that were designed to help young farmers in agriculture.
Mr. Jagoe, said, “We welcome the Ministers decision to put funding of Bord Bia on a stronger footing and give them the financial support to implement their ambitious plan for the marketing of Irish dairy products abroad and support the targets set out by the Harvest 20/20 report.”
“Furthermore, the Ministers initiatives to provide funding for beef discussion groups is a positive and welcome development. It has already proved to be a highly effective means of ongoing development and knowledge sharing at farm level in the dairy sector.”
“The reopening of the full range of measures under TAMS is to be welcomed. These are targeted schemes aimed at targeting infrastructural deficits in the dairy, pigs, poultry, and sheep sectors with an added emphasis on young farmers.”
