Macra na Feirme Survey on Health and Wellbeing
In recent months Macra na Feirme conducted a survey on the macra.ie website, in relation to members Health and Wellbeing. Based on the information Macra and the National Dairy Council have teamed up to provide members with Health and Wellbeing information. This information is tailored specifically to the needs and wants of Macra members. Living a healthy lifestyle and eating well, need not cost a lot it is more a matter of providing members with personalised information, tips and recipes, which this section of the Macra website aims to do.
The survey of 400 Macra members (62.9% female and 37.1% male) revels that 79.5% of members take their health and wellbeing seriously, therefore Macra and the NDC saw the need to team up to provide members with the information they require to live a healthier lifestyle. When asked if members understood the advice they receive on diet and health, 67.6% did, however, there are still 32.4% who don’t, Macra and NDC believe this section of the Macra website, will help members better understand the advice they receive.
When members were asked if they exercised regularly, 87.7% of members either regularly or sometimes take part in exercise, this could be down to the busy Macra sporting calendar, therefore the NDC have come on board as the official partner for the Macra na Feirme, Volleyball, Basketball, Bowling, indoor Soccer and GAA 7-a-side. In relation to what members eat, 88.1% either do or sometimes watch what they eat, this Health and Wellbeing section will give members new recipes for healthy appetising food and different options, Macra may even have to launch a cooking competition for the budding chefs’ amongst our members.
Members were also asked where they got their Health and Wellbeing information, the highest percentage of members 26.5% received their information from press, with 12.3% receiving it from the internet, therefore Macra and the NDC have also teamed up to have a Health and Wellbeing section in the Macra magazine, making it as easy for members as possible to access information on a range of Health and Wellbeing information.
83.4% of members wished to avail of Health and Wellbeing information from a trained professional, therefore Dr Catherine Logan, Nutritionist with the NDC is kindly coming on board to supply the text for the Health and Wellbeing section of the website. (To find out more about Catherine, look out for the 60 seconds with interview in the May edition of the Macra magazine).
When asked if members would see any advantage to getting tips to follow a healthy balanced diet, 91.8% answered that they would benefit from this information, therefore there is a designated Nutrition and Diet section on this webpage, which will give members advice on , what is a healthy balanced diet, and tips on how to achieve a balanced diet.
